Basic Korean Consonants (기본 자음)
ㄱ ㄴ ㄷ ㄹ ㅁ ㅂ ㅅ ㅇ ㅈ ㅊ ㅋ ㅌ ㅍ ㅎ
Korean has 14 basic consonants. Each has a name and a sound that may change depending on its position in a syllable. Korean is completely phonetic - once you learn these, you can read any Korean word! The consonants are organized by how they are pronounced: • Plain consonants: ㄱ, ㄷ, ㅂ, ㅅ, ㅈ • Nasal consonants: ㄴ, ㅁ, ㅇ (at end) • Aspirated consonants: ㅊ, ㅋ, ㅌ, ㅍ, ㅎ • Special: ㄹ (liquid), ㅇ (silent at start)
